Hi everyone :) I'm trying to get into a healthy diet/routine after Christmas! And as usual I'm struggling to cut back on sugar :( Have you any tips?
Also what do you normally bring to school for lunch? I know it's important for everyone to be healthy and fit but as Irish dancers we generally need more energy to dance! Is there anything special you eat to keep you going?
I know there may be other threads for this but i couldn't find them :/

Hi
I'm trying to get healthier after xmas too, i think i've gained a bit. I recon it must of been all that cake...lol.
For lunch at school, i usually have relativley healthy stuff, and mostly, instead of a sandwich i have a thermos. I have leftovers in it like pasta and curry and stuff like that. I usually have fruit in my lunch box and occasionaly a treat. This year, if i have the option of having something treaty i will not have it and that helps getting healthier just that little bit easier. Im also trying to do the 5 fruit and veg thing everyday, as well as the 8 glasses of water thing.
hope this helps

If you eat a variety of fruits and vegetables, some grain-based food (like bread, pasta and cereal) and some kind of high-protein food (like meat, seafood, dairy, eggs, nuts and beans) you'll probably get most of the nutrients you need.

If you want to cut back in sugar, the best way to do that is increase the amount of fruits and vegetables you eat. They have a different kind of sugar in them that is better for your body, so you'll be eating healthier and they'll help keep your body from craving sweet foods.

Yesterday my mum told me that the japanese are the healthiest nation in the world because when they eat, they chew the food 20 times before they swallow it.
That may sound wierd, but when you chew, you send a message to your brain that you are eating something and when you eat, you don't feel full untill 10mins after you actually are full. So if you chew more, you start to feel full around the same time that you actually get full, and that helps you eat no more than what you need.
Hope that wasn't too confusing! :D

when i go to dance class i usually bring some grapes or some other type of fruit. Fruit doesn't give you a stitch and it has enough sugar in it to give you an energy boost.
hope this helps! :)

For me, I usually eat a peanut butter and jelly on whole wheat bread sandwich. The peanut butter and WHOLE WHEAT bread have a lot of protein (which we need), and the jelly or jam still satisfies our sweet tooth! :) As a side for my school lunches, I bring an apple and a small granola bar. I also drink a lot of water with my lunch. You can do it!
