Are you alowed to babysit?
If so, That is a GREAT way to earn money!
Ask your mom if she will pay you to do things around the house.
Also, don't get tempted to buy silly stuff! Remember not to spend your money until you have that dress! :D

You can get money by babysitting or washing your dog.
Ask if you can get paid for doing chores.

Babysitting is great.
I did that for years....but not because I was saving for a dress.
But anyway it is a great work.

Great idea...ask your mom if she can pay you little money for housework.
You mom will be happy too....she doesn't have to do so much work.
Maybe you can deliver newspapers??

You could try washing cars, baby-sitting, selling some of your old stuff that you don't want. There's quite a few ways you can :p

When you reach the age when begging doesn't work any more, LOL, you can do work like cleaning up yards for those that are too old to do it themselves so they don't have to hire a service to do it. Always charge very fair rates, ppl will want to support you more when it costs them very little at a time. The problem with asking your parents for allowance is that they ultimately end up paying for the dress and my parents wouldn't go for that. However, if it will work with your parents, go for it! Offer yourself as a pet-watching service. See what your community needs and advertise for it. Use your gifts wisely, that's what they're for!

Of course, you could always look into illicit activities to finance your Irish dancing hobby...j/k, I don't reccomend that... although family valuables can fetch quite a high price on the black market...okay, I'll stop.
I can't remember if it's been mentioned, but do you get an allowance? If you don't you could always talk to your parents and see if they're willing to give you one... if you do get one, i's a good idea to start there.
And yes, ignore the tip about the black market, despite what the evil SnowShine will try and convince you of, it's no good! :P

If you're good at a certain thing in school you could tutor younger students for some $$. Or you could see what your teacher thikns about you profitting from ID classes and make up your own steps for a bit of dough! LOL Okay, but seriously, don't do that!!!!!!! And if you do, it wasn't my idea, remember that! Unless of course it's like a huge profit. Then we could both get our solo dresses! J/K, forget it was mentioned!

Ok - has anyone heard of the u12 dancer at the all scotlands this weekend just gone who wore a plain black dress, no wig & she came 6th in the championship?! She looked really nice! And shes so brave for going up there and dancing in a plain costume!

what can i say? she dances because she loves it! you don't have to have a fancy costume just to love irish dance! it's the spirit and dreams that give us courage and strength to do what we love! :D

Exactly! The costume doesn't make the spirit of a dancer. The dancer's spirit makes the costume.

I saw that picture before too; I'm not sure why she didn't wear her solo dress, but I think it's awesome!! It makes people go back to irish dancing (as in the steps, technique...) and not just being marked on who has the sparkliest dress!! :D Seeing that picture made me happy; although I am excited for getting my solo dress soon!!

FANTASTIC! I've decided she's my new idol! haha
It's great that she does that, I hate the HUGE focus there are
on dresses, tiaras, wigs and make up, it kinda destroy the main purpuse - Dancing! ow yeah. :D

I was at the All Scotland and I saw that girl dance, she was very very good and deserved her 6th place, she also looked great just as nice as all the others in their sparkly dresses. I was listening to all the parents who had nothing but praise for her.

1. Birthdays, christmas, etc.
2. BABYSIT
3. Work hard and do some chores around the house!

Good luck and you'll LOVE having a solo dress once you achieve your goal!!

1. You could raffle off some valuable family items! then spend the $ from the raffle tickets on the dress! LOL (Don't you dare try that!)
2. You could try selling off your design of a solo dress to dress designers. Tey're always looking for new ideas.
3. At Christmas, ask for a solo dress savings from extended family.
4. Cut back on your expenses at places like feis. if your parents offer to pay a certain amount of $ for a T-shirt or something, ask them if they would rather like to put that $ into your dress savings.
5. Start shopping for dresses now-early or not. The best way to earn $$ for a solo dress is to stay motivated as to what it is that you want and what it is that your dream dressmaker is charging. Then remind yourself of that when you hit a dead end and want to give up.

Hi,

A perfect way to earn money for a solo dress is simply to dance for it. What I used to do was making contact with Irish folkbands without dancers. They are really happy when you want to dance with them, because it's good for their band. And when you find the right band, maybe you can join their show definitely. I was also looking for performances and now I'm in a theatreshow!

Another thing I would do is giving workshops Irish dance at primary schools.

And I also work in a restaurant on friday and saturday evenings

I'm not sure how old you are so this may not be an option. You could get a job if you could. It may not work with scheduling and stuff tho. Otherwise, im not that helpful. Good luck tho. Show me your dress when you qualify and buy it.

Steal a car and sell it...! Only messin !!! How about selling some stuff that you don't need on ebay!?!

reel_princess17

good news! when i bought it, the price was cut in half! now all i have to pay is $400. that's a lot to me....but really, if you think about it, it could have been more!

i'm doing serious babysitting right now. my first babysitting job, i made $30 and it's all going towards the dress! :D
