In a compitition have you ever noticed that you have over 20 people in a dance? Really it should be lower like 15 max. people!
I would do a whole lot better then, and so would most people.
Maybe we can change it somtime. that would be awesome!! :) :D :p :)

I hate that too. I don't mind it so much in trophy dances because trophies don't count and it's cool to say "I got 5th out of 30 people and it was a really tough competition." You know what I mean?

well I know what you mean. but at the same time... I can relate to kicks_n_clicks cause it is cool to say that you did well out of a huuuuuuuuge group. But if you wanna get your 1sts then I would suggest maybe going to smaller competitions, find ones that not a lot of people go to. Maybe your dance teacher can suggest a few.

Yes, it IS hard when a group is huge. But then, if you win, you really are the best, whereas if there are lots of smaller groups and you only win in your small group, you may not actually be the best. I think a medal is worth a lot more when you know you really worked hard for it!:p

I really like big groups, because then you can show your true ability :)

Usually if you have more than 20 people they will split it into two groups. And treble reels always have a lot of people, I was in one that had 42 people.

Yea, if they're over 30 people then the competition is usually split into to competitions for that dance and at the feises I've been to it's usually split into 'A' and 'B' :)

I think it's just my evil side, but I'm not a proponent of splitting any competitions, ever. It doesn't matter to me whether it's seventy dancers in a beginner competition, or four hundred and fifty at nationals, I think it's a practice that needs to be abolished. In a large competition, wins really mean something and even placing in a large competition says something about your abilities-- not so much in a comp with five dancers when everyone gets a medal.

I've been in an a,b,c,and d group before. I've also been in really big groups as well. In the midwest it is extremely rare to have less than 17 in a group and many times, there are groups with 20...
I was in a treble reel once with 108 competitors. It was awesome.. especially since I won. I was bawling and I hugged the judge (who looked rather stunned) xD :D
Overall, a smaller group is nicer to place better, but if you win in a really large group.. you know that you truly deserved it and are ready for the next level.. while in smaller groups, you might have just gottne the better group. ;)

I usually only have groups of three or four people , and that really bothers me, because if I win, it doesn't mean as much, and if I lose, I feel bad becauses it should have been easy. I know a bigger group is hard to win, but I still think it'd be better.

i love it when its not split. bc then when you still place, you feel so much more accomplished. its very motivating and encouraging. and if you dont then you know there was just a lot of REALLY good dancers and that the odds were against you. haha. i love feisesss:D

I dont mind. It would be kind of too easy that way. Some dances I have forty people in my competitions, and some I only have ten. Its really exciting when you win a big competition. It just shows you are so much better!
Its annoying when you are in comp A with 25 people, and the people in comp C, for instance, only have 7. That is unfair. But lowering the competition max would be like going to all easy feiseanna. Whats the point if you move up and only have beaten 10 dancers?
Feiseanna would also take longer (more competition numbers) than usual. And I really do hate waiting super long times!

I really like it both ways. Its nice to have a small group as it is easier to place and you have a better chance of moving up! I also like big groups as you can say I came first out of ...... people! I'n the Irish Opens, I won my hornpipe out of about 150 people!:D

think of it this way... people tend to think that it is only unfair if they're the one who gets 2nd and needs the first to move up... OR if they didn't place at all. It would seem totally fair and ok if they're the one receiving the first. ;)

Yeah i guess that is ture, but if they split up the groups,
And the winner was in the other group she probably would have won soo...:D

While it's really frustrating to compete against large numbers, it's really good practice for majors. You just have to focus on dancing your best, aside from the competition. If you're the best dancer there, whether it's in a crowd of 10 or 100 dancers, it's going to show. And if you've worked very hard, that too will show against numbers, in addition to confidence.
Like Aligetreel mentioned, the Midwest is NOTORIOUS for large competitions! Typically, a group must have over 35 dancers to be split, but not all feises abide to this rule. I can recall doing a Slip Jig many years ago at the Akron feis- 42 dancers. I got 6th and was all happy lol.

I usually always have 30 people in my compition. I thing it is easier to win if there is more dancers in my compition. My age group is under12:)

yeah i think that its important to know where u stand over all... like i went to nationals this year and came 50something out of 121 people, which makes it much more real. if its split u may rank high but it might be wrong coz there could be better people in the other half.

At my next feis, (tomorrow!) I have nineteen people in one of my dances! I know that most of you are used to dances that have even more people, but I'm used to like five or six, so I'm really nervous!
