ID dictionary

Okay heres an idea that I came up last night. An Irish Dance dictionary. We don't have to go in abc order though, cause that can be kinda hard. Remember, you must under line the first word, use a "-", and use bold for underlined word. Okay, I'll start off.


Fireworks- when you move across the stage, and have bounce at the same time.

Butterfly- a step where you click you heels twice going forwards and backwards in one jump

Slip jig- 1. a step used with *ghillies*. 2. a step like ballet and has lots of grace.

Ghillies- 1. black shoes with long laces. 2. shoes used for the **reel and *slip jig*.

Reel- 1. a dance used with *ghillies*. 2. a dance with a lot of bounce and high kicks.

Bicycle- A move where you jump in the air and pedal backwards with both legs 3-4 times.

Birdie-a move where you jump up and bring your back foot up and down(like a herkie in cheerleading)

Double Hop/Quiver- A move where you hop in the air and let your right foot tap against your left knee 2 times.

Double back- when you bring your back leg up twice in one jump.

One-two-three - The first step learnt in Irish dancing. One jumps forward on the right foot, then again on the left, then finally bringing the right foot to the back of the left to complete.

Back Treble- the Ard Grahd hard shoe movement of jumping slightly with your front foot with your back foot lifted, then quickly making two sounds with the tip of your hardshoe by moving your back foot forward then backwards under your supporting foot, returning to your original position.

Twist - Am ard grahd hard shoe movement where, after having done a treble hop back, you step on your front foot, and whilst bring you back foot forward ( tipping the ground with your tip), twisting your ankle outwards and the back in.

Skater Jump - a move where you jump and do a 360 in mid-air

chop or click- a move done in both Hardshoe and Softshie in which you bring one straight leg up and switch it with the other leg in mid air.

Twists are done in softshoe, too! :)

Double chop/ double jump: a move where you jump straight into the air switch your feet and switch them back all in one jump with your toes pointed underneath you.
