Not sure where to post this but decided here....Sooooo....I just got home from my first feis in a new organization and didn't do too bad (3 firsts and 3 seconds). For the new organization I couldn't wear my solo dress in the level I was competing so I had on a plain black skirt and plain polo shirt and wore my regular bun wig...Apparently accourding to some of the parents at this feis I was dressed "showy and glamorous". One of the other girls I dance with was standing at the concession stand to get food after we were all done and overheard 2 moms standing behind her talking badly about me. They talked about the fact that I was the "new girl" and was really old and shouldnt have been allowed to compete because of my age...I competed in over 12s and over 13s and I'm 25...Then they started in on my attire and said that the only reason I won was because of my "showy" costume and not because I was good at dancing. As I said before I had on a plain old skirt and polo...how in the world that is showy I don't know, I didn't even have on a school costume!! Hahaha! And it's not like I choose the age groups, I went in the one for my age! I find it quite hilarious that these women were so jealous of me beating the kids in their school that the only things they could come up with for why I shouldn't have won was becasue of my age and my clearly not fancy costume being too glamorous! Way to go moms! I just had to get that off my chest, sorry for ranting on so much...but needed to share. Any one else had anything like this happen? Oh and you should know I danced in the same level equivalent I was in in my old organization in the new one, so it wasn't like I started at the bottom after my years of dancing. I guess people are the same no matter where you go!

Oh dear, don't even get me STARTED on mums like that! They're my pet hate. Imagine what lessons their daughters learn from them? You'd swear it was the mothers dancing (Oh, I forgot, they don't have the guts or the energy!) I'd say the truth of the matter was that you were at a huge disadvantage dancing against girls so much younger and lighter than you, and it took great courage. Well done to you for being brave! The mums were sour that you beat their daughters (because you really danced better), and the only excuse they could come up with was your outfit. Congratulations, you deserved your great results!;)

We have lots of those moms at our local Feis.Sometimes I think you see girls crying about losing because of their moms.Way to go.Those definitely have an advantage over you being younger.

Most people in the irish dance world are very nice. It's too bad that you had to listen to some of the few who are not nice.

Hahahaha! That's just pathetic that they would try to diminish your achievements by saying that you were dressed too "showy"! Like what were the other dancers wearing!?!

It sounds like you danced very well and the judges rewarded you. It is very hard to dance against much younger girls and place well. The good news is that you will move up in all your dances quickly and not compete against those sore losers again.l
