Here's how you get a site.

#1 Get a domain name.

If you want a certain one like www.irishdancing.com and it already taken, then you must find another one. But say you want stargirl82 or something and it USED to be a site. Then you buy the domain name from the person who owns it. If the domainname has NEVER egsisted, then you must register the domain name. Either way, you must pay for a connection to the server.

#2 Create the pages to your site.
You can do this with pure HTML or using a program, such as front page or Dreamweaver.

#3 First you must get a program to upload pages and such to the net. (dreamweaver or FTP)

#4 Connect that program to the server.

#5 Upload your pages to the net

#6 publisize your site a bit so people will come look at it and update it frequently.

You can also do a website on a host site.... you don't own a domain name and you must rely on the host site and their programs... personally I think the domain name is the way to go. You have way more freedom and it's totally yours... to do with as you please. :)

It depends what you want to do.

If you just want to use a host site.. (aka your site is like www.hostsite'sname.com/ your site's name... ya know.. like you are a part of their site) Then, you may not have to pay anything.

If you want your own domain name (aka www.aliandra.com) Then you must pay to #1 register the domain name if it doesn't egsist.

then pay with a provider to connect you to a server.

But really, it's not that much. :)
