Hi guys! This is my second full year in novice (I've already qualified 2 dances for prizewinner) and I'm getting discouraged. I'm placing in novice, just not more 1sts. How do you keep from getting discouraged from feis to feis?

By reminding yourself that if you practice hard, you might win next time!
Two years isn't a long time to be in novice, though, so don't feel discouraged!

keep reminding yourself that you are a good dancer. it is very hard (in my opinion) to be in a split level like that. i just moved up but i was in novice for about 2 years. it was really hard not to get discouraged and i felt like i was a terrible dancer. always remember why you dance: because you love it!!

Thanks to both of you! This is great advice! I was at a feis yesterday and I totally danced my hardest but I only got 3rd in my set! :( That was really hard. I do dance because I love it! I absolutley love going to class and travelling to feisanna!
Keep the tips coming, please!!!

I think the biggest tip for not getting discouraged is to remind yourself that you are a good dancer and you'll move up soon! Thanks!

My dance teacher used to call novice "novice jail". Trust me, you're not alone. I had at least one dance in novice for about four years. Novice is the hardest level, in my opinion, to get out of. Once you get out of novice, I won't say that getting into champs is a breeze, but it's a little easier. Remind yourself that you can get out of novice-you've already done it twice! Just practice hard and know that THERE'S A LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL! When you go up on the stage, tell yourself that you CAN do it and be confident (trust me, just looking confident can do wonders!). If you persevere and work hard, I guarantee you will get completely out of novice!:D Good luck!

Very good advice!
Here's something I was told once:
No matter how bad things seem, they will get better. They may disimprove a bit before they improve, but they WILL get better. Just keep your eyes on what you want and you'll get it- whether it be freedom from bullies or getting into Champs.
