Some parents have such amazing ideas for taking the frazzle out of feisanna, so I thought we should share them. I'll start us off with this one:
The day before each feis I polish my son's shoes, paint scuffed heels with black shoe dye and stick new (black) duct tape on the heels and toe tips. He dances more confidently knowing he's not likely to slip. Of course he could do this himself too, but I like my little ritual! And a brilliant one that my friend mini2z gave me: Always pack CLEAR drinks for your dancer. Drinks have a naughty habit of exploding all over lovely costumes , and if it's bright green or red... just before the slip jig... you catch my drift. |

Hi Sweetpea, SNAP!!!!, I do just exactly that, I always get everything prepared the day before, shoes polished, and laces undone ready to put on, new tape etc. I also prepare the wig, I put it on the wigstand, and give it a trim if needed, recurl the curls that have gone a little askew, then spray with wigspray, it then stays on the wigstand overnight until I am ready to put it on. I also have a little box, which I call my pandora's box, it has hairgrips, clips, hairnet, sock glue, tape, sock bracelets, scissors etc, I double check I have everything ready for the next day, check the dress, bloomers, socks etc. We went to a feis in London, and was staying the weekend. Wasn't til we had just arrived at the hotel that I realised I had forgotten the socks!
Luckily enough they sell them at the feis's. But I don't make that mistake any more, I make sure I have everything. Preparing a list and ticking it off as you go is also a good idea. Especially if you are travelling overseas.Totally agree about the clear drinks.!!!. ![]() |

Gosh, you make me feel very relieved that I only have a boy to get ready - no wigs, clips or poodle socks. I also have a check list! Feis mums are so organised (no doubt because of previous disasters)! How lovely that you travel overseas for dancing - we hope to get there one day.

Somewhere along the line there was a what to pack for a feis. It's a list of what to make sure you pack. After vacation, I'll hunt it down and post it.
I have a "feis box" which I keep an extra pair of socks for each dancer above what's in their dance bags, wet wipes, things to do for the kids when waiting for a slow running feis, snacks, sewing kit, bandaids & blister bandaids, lots of safety pins, ribbon for number cards, plus those CLEAR fluids that Sweetpea mentioned! They don't get anything else until they're out of their dress and dress clothes. mini mom to ds (firebolt) & dd (se2z) |

I've got an idea...How about we make a list of all the things that you need to have when Feising...
And then we can make a long checklist!!! I just kinda wandered onto this page...cos OBVIOUSLY I'm not a Feis mum!!! |

I know I'm not a parent, but here's something really important: Feis parents can be a huge help. I recentley forgot my wig at the feis that has no vendors (just my luck!). Some champ parents helped us. Another time a man helped my mom figure out the best route home. Just ask, because most people are very friendly and more than willing to help.

So true. We once had a desperate mum phone us at a feis - desperately lost on the other side of the city. My husband (Old Pete Bog) spent half an hour on the phone talking them through the route. When they finally arrived, their son ran onto the stage and beat mine in every single dance. I told my my husband he should have directed them to Timbuktu.
Ah, you know me. I could never do that. ![]() |
