Default Practice Hours

I was wondering how many hours you would reccomend a novice/open dancer should practice a week (outsie of class)?

Every day that you aren't having a class, run through all your material. If you do well, only do each dance once, if you make a mistake, do it again
That's what I do!

I practise at least an hour every day I don't have class. I have class 3 days a week, so I practise at least an hour those other 4 days, although sometimes I take Sunday off! During the summer, while classes weren't going, I'd practise at least an hour 5 days a week sometimes 6.

Probably about a half hour to an hour, but don't just run through your steps. If you do them well, then you wont have to do them again.

yeah. I always break them down and work on sections and work on separate steps and leaps and stuff. Not just running through the actual dances.

As much as you can! I don't think that your practice schedule should be based on your level of dancing, but rather your comittment and where you are planning on getting. A lazy championship dancer may never practice while a Beginner who someday wants to get to worlds may practice a few hours a day. Practice definately helps and is important in reaching your goals so make as much time for it as you can!

Default practice

I usually pratice 2 hours a day when I don't have class. I have class 3 times a week for 2 hrs, and coming up to majors, I try to practice even on days I have class beforehand. I also do ballet, and try to do stomach and abdominal excersises when I can.

My teacher tells us to practice 4 hours a week total. Plus dance classes. I really don't tho. I practice certain bits of my dances for an hour, but I don't try to overdo it.

Here's why.

I have dance from 5 to 6 times a week.

Monday - Regular class 8:15 to 9:30
Tuesday - Show material + regular class 8:15 to 9
Wednesday - 8:15 to 9:30
Thursday - Day off!
Friday - Set class 7:30 to 9
Saturday - sometimes off, sometimes a workshop or a feis
Sunday - 12.5 to 3.5 pm for dance drama, and tradset 5 to 7 pm

Should a still practice... I mean, I think I should and yet, I don't want to overdo it and get hurt...
