Default Want to be Champion

I'm in Open/Prizwinner and I really want to be a Prelim. Champion. My sister says I need to be bigger in my dancing. Any tips in how to improve this, or any other tips on how to get to Championships sooner?

I might not be a Champion but I am willing to give Advice.
If you want to be a Champion you have to dance, act,do as a Champion not as a Prizewinner anymore.
You have to train as one as well.
Instead of doing that Treble Jig once do it twice in a row.
And yes you have to dance "Bigger" & "Effortless" like nothing is in your way.
And make Jumps and leaps seem like to the Judges that YOU are floating on air.
The Judges want to see as well in Prelim how you can handle these big to do Steps.
And YOU really have to show them what YOU got.
Best of Luck.

I am in prelim, but I can't exactly tell you how to be a 'champion'. Most of being a good dancer comes from hard work and effort from the dancer. From now on, I would start to take more classes at your dance school. Also, the biggest thing you could do is PRACTICE AT HOME! I don't mean just running through your steps, I mean full out dancing. Break up your steps into parts and really improve the little things. And finally, be confident in the way you dance!! My problem was that I was too hard on myself all the time, and I got a bit overwhelmed. Make sure to act like a champion at your next competition! You have to want it! Good luck

practice practice practice.

rachel is right. you have to train like a champion. when i first entered prizewinnner i never really practiced. my placings were ok. i got a couple 2nds but i didnt start placing consistently until i started practicing. even then i still wasnt winning so i really amped up what i did. i started stretching everyday and practicing long and hard. at first my placings fluctuated but then i started winning. you cant just run through your steps and do a couple drills everyday. thats not going to get you anywhere. you have to really work. you need to do extra stamina drills and break everything down. really perfect the basics.

i would suggest watching the prelim dancers and seeing what they do diffferently. i would also suggest talking to your teacher about what you need to improve. maybe even take a couple private lessons.

its really hard to be big while dancing on the small prizewinner stages. you cant move around a lot so you need to get height. lift really hihg and jump and leap straight into the air to get lots of height.

good luck
