Default Dancer to dancers mum!

Hi all I recently retired from dancing in June, at the grand old age of 27! I physically couldn't handle anymore after 16 years of it!
My dd is 9yrs and has just started up, I try help her out as much as I can, and although she is very good, she has lots of lift just needs to work on her turnout.

She has placed well at the 2 feis she has been to this year, and we are attending another one in 2 weeks time.
After finally getting over the fear of the stage she loves feising now

DD doesn't like taking correction from me tho, I know exactly what she is doing wrong and when I tell her she just goes off on one lol
Now I am not shouting at her or anything, I am a very patient person especially when teaching ID, as I have taught loads of children before her.
Why is it so different when it's your own?

She has the potential to be a great dancer, and if she will listen to me and correct the little things she is doing wrong she will fly through all the grades.

I have told her to practice on her own to see if that helps but she just says
'Mammy but I need someone to tell me what I am doing wrong!!'
Catch 22.... damned if I do and damned if I don't lol

Just wondering to the parents of IDs I get really nervous when she is on stage, a hell of a lot more than when I was dancing myself (and I used to be a nervous wreck!! )

Am I more nervous than other Id mums because I know how it feels, or is it like this for everyone lol

A girl in my class went to her first feis and her mom cried, I guess she was nervous for her of something. My mom gets nervous for me too. I guess it's just a parent thing.

Yes, it's nerve racking, is't it!? I try my very best to stay calm so that I won't make it even worse for my son. I try to focus on the enjoyment rather than the results. Easier said than done. May I suggest Rescue Remedy? I have a friend who gets terribly nervous when her son dances and I usually keep a bottle with me - for her! It's homeopathic and comes in drops or tiny tablets. I believe there is even a spray. It really takes the edge off the worst of the nerves.
And about the correction: Between the devil and the deep blue sea! I've been dancing for many years too (never mind that my son overtook me when he was about seven) but I've always tried to leave the teaching to the teacher. My own role is rather one of supporter, comforter, confidence booster, snack-provider and costume-sorter. Even if I could give advice, I don't think my son would take it kindly from me.
Good luck at the feis!
