This poll is just for parents of dancers. Do you help you child (or children ) practice sometimes? Or do you want them to practice on their own?

No!
My child helps ME!!! He's much, much better than me and I often have to ask him to show me steps (stuff he did years ago...)Seriously though. I don't think parents should interfere, unless they know a lot about Irish Dancing. The teacher knows what he/she is doing. I think the mum should be there for moral support, hugs, transport, snacks, and helping you get ready at a feis. Leave the teaching to the teacher. |

my mom helps a lot. She knows all my steps and has really made sure she knows what to look for especially the mistakes that I usually make(looking down,,,not turning out my feet) It is helpful because if i start to forget she can help me out without having to freak out about it .

My mum helps out a lot, yet she hasn't got the slightest clue about Irish Dance! She helps with exactly what sweetpea said. She knows the basics, like smiling, hands by your side and on your tiptoes but that's about all that she knows. And sometimes, my sister and I wish that she would know our steps and stuff to help us, but in the longrun it's better because she never knows if we make a mistake or anything of the sort. I did so badly at a feis once and I know I did. It was so bad to the point where I ran off the stage crying after I was done. But my mum who knew nonetheless just gave me a huge hug and told me she thought I did amazing, and that's exactly what ID mummys and daddys are there for.

I'm not a parent, but my mother says a lot of times that I have to practice when I haven't done it. For me it doesn't work, because I don't like to practice when I am pushed. Now I practice daily s omy mother doesn't have to say anything.

My parents don't know all that much about ID, but sometimes before a feis, they watch me and tell me what I need to improve on like turnout, crossover, arms, etc.

I love watching Dancingdoll practice, I bring her to my friends house who has an older DD in the same school. We sit down with a nice cup of tea and let the girls to it, I enjoy it more then watching her in comp because I'm really stressed then,
but I don't let her see it.![]() |

My Mam helps me and my sister with our dancing all the time....HOW?....She clears out the furniture from the front room, makes sure we have all the CDs we need, makes drinks for us and then sits and watches what we do!!! She hasn't a clue about irish dancing but we love her to sit and watch us as our audience when we practise at home.
