Sorry to drag up an old thread but I was wondering if anyone else had an opinion on this?

Personally I am not Michael Flatley's biggest fan, purely because although he's a sensational dancer, there's other dancers out there much better than him-John Carey for instance-who just don't get the recognition they deserve. I also think other dancers that have danced lead roles, John Carey, Peter Harding, Colin Dunne etc dance their steps 'up' a lot more than Michael does-his seem to be down low and out to the side quite a bit, almost in a tap dancing style sometimes whereas the others are still very much strictly irish with their legs high and trebles out in front, feet turned out etc.

But at the end of the day who am I to comment haha if I could dance half as well as him I'd be a very, very happy girl!

Hahahahaha I saw this before and I love it hahaha I know it's kinda taken the mick with irish Dance and all but it's still really funny :P
As for Michael Flatley I think he is really cocky but still an amazing dancer ! But as anyone here on IDM says when giving advice for stage presence you hold your head up high and you make yourself look confident! he does have more of a tap style rather than irsh dance but he never said he did strictly irish dancing! But when it comes to a show it's not about the technicalities it's about having fun, using your own personal style and it's meant to be able to be enjoyed by non-irish-dancers as well so I guess I do like Michael Flatley

I think Michael Flatley is showy...but, you know, he kinda has too. I'm mean he IS the lead dancer, and the focus is SUPPOSED to be on him...

I "LOVE" Michael simply because he evolved irish dancing into more of what it is today.
I mean he got the word of ID EVERYWHERE.
If people never heard of Lord of the Dance OR Riverdance it would be a foreign dance form nobody would know of.
So I give him props.
And their might be better dancers then him but I mean seriously give the man a little bit of credit.

I agree that Michael Flatley is showy, and kinda conceited. But, I also think that might just be on stage. After all, he has a wife and kids who love him. But you can't expect him to be Mr.Humble since he's the face of irish dance and basically a genius at his craft.
