I am in between prizewinner and prelim, and I try to practice an hour every day that I don't have dance practice, plus I do ab workouts every day!

Try to practice everyday even if its for 20 min. Try to work in some drills and break down steps to make sure you're doing EVERYTHING right. It's tedious but it will make a great dancer outta you.

I wish I had time to practice everyday, but I'm in university, so I usually try and practice two days a week. One day for softshoe and one day for hardshoe; I do a warm up, stretch, drills (which takes most of my time), breakdown my steps (which also takes up most of my time), and then I run through each of my dances a few times thinking about what I worked on. Then I cool down and stretch again for longer! Usually about 1.5h-2h each of those two days, so about 4h/wk in total.

I had classes two days a week, but I help teach two days a week too (so I guess I'm dancing then too, but not like my normal class!!); I try to get to the gym when I can, but it usually doesn't happen!! lol That's why when I do drills at home, or after I do my cool down or whatever, I do some ab/ankle work if I have time. I'm just getting back into dance after a summer vacation break, so I'm not pushing myself this hard yet, but I'm in novice hoping to move into prizewinner this year, so as I gradually work up to practicing two days a week for 2h each day.....it should be good!

My teacher tells us to practice 4 hours a week total. Plus dance classes. I really don't tho. I practice certain bits of my dances for an hour, but I don't try to overdo it.

Here's why.

I have dance from 5 to 6 times a week.

Monday - Regular class 8:15 to 9:30
Tuesday - Show material + regular class 8:15 to 9
Wednesday - 8:15 to 9:30
Thursday - Day off!
Friday - Set class 7:30 to 9
Saturday - sometimes off, sometimes a workshop or a feis
Sunday - 12.5 to 3.5 pm for dance drama, and tradset 5 to 7 pm

Should a still practice... I mean, I think I should and yet, I don't want to overdo it and get hurt...

My teacher tells us to just practice as much as possible.. being in prelims i try to practice at least an hour and a half every day that i don't have dance as long as i don't have a ny relative that i would bother doing this. i try to spend the entire time on one of my dances (as of now this will be hardshoe until i can get the new step perfectly for oireachtas) and then the next time i will do the other one!
