I don't know what region you're in and what organization you're with, but in the Southern Region people can compete in solos from prizewinner up and people can be on teams from as low as advanced beginner and up.

It depends on your age group... if you're u13 and up then it's only prelims and above -and you have to place top 50% in prelims to qualify.... if you're younger though it can be prizewinner if you place top 3 in every dance. I'm mid-america if that makes any difference

Yeah, I def think that it depends on your region and organization. In the western US it is kinda up to the teacher as to when she/he thinks that you are ready. At my school, we go when we are semi-qualified for prelims usually (as in placing consistantly in PW).

i actually think that in mid-america you can still qualify in u 13 if you either get a first place in your core dances in prizewinner (reel, slip jig, jig, hornpipe) or place in the top 50% in prelims. Once in u14 you have to place in the top 50% in prelims to qualify. Cause this year i qualified in prizewinner, but next year i am moving up to p.c.

yeah idk what region you're talking about, but in mid alantic, we have prizewinners and maybe under competiting. i was in prizewinner before my first solo at the oireachtas and moved up to prelim.

In my region you can do trad set if you're in advanced beg., novice, or pw. I feel very lucky to have this oppurtunity. I hope that they don't take it away, as these are very traditional.
