Today at Oireachtas practice I was told that my reel was too timid. How can I change this? I was dancing with a guy who got 5th at worlds this year so i felt like i was really pushing myself to move so i wouldn't get stuck dancing behind him.

I was also told that my set didn't look like my own... how do I make a set my own?

I'm often told that too. My teacher says I'm too tidy.
So just let go a little bit!

I know just what you mean. Our teacher would say:" Now that was a very apologetic reel." She says we must have an attitude of "Here I am, I am brilliant, and you've all come here to see me!"

Get a song that REALLY pumps you up. My favorites are Eye of the Tiger and Remember the Name. Just go for it. Just rip the stage apart. For your set, video tape yourself and find ways you can make it your own. Find inspiration through other steps and experiment. Ask others for advice. I know you will come up with something.

just sort of dance like they aren't watching u.... my teacher said, yesterday, that i "blew up" when i was dancing... it was funny!!!! sorry i'm not going 2 that competition but i know how it feels

ok. put every little once of energy into every move. super squeeze your toes. use the ENTIRE stage and move around like you're strapped to a rocket. jump really high and be agressive. don't worry about mistakes, just dance and make each move really coutn.

Our teacher says be a show off say to the judges look at me and take the whole floor and dance your best and be happy doing it and on you hard dances she says we should bang like an elephant.
