I don't think you should be able to get a dress until you're old enough to compete at worlds... so when you're ten you should be able to get one but before then i don't really think that it's neccessary.

I love my solo dress! My mom is constantly adding rinestones to it and I don't think it really make the difference if you have one or not. Some judges do discriminate on who has a solo dress, and who doesn't. I don't think that's fair. If you want to wear a solo dress, go ahead. If you don't, and you like the traditional styles more, wear a traditional costume.

I was dancing ten years before I got my first solo costume! (Iwasn't competing for ten years though! ) But thats only because it took me that long to move up in my dances. I'm with An Comhdhail so you have to be at least pre-open before you get a solo costume. I love my solo costume
But thats just me I don't like everyone elses solo costumes so if you like the sparkles like me then go for it !!! I don't see anything wrong with younger dancers wearing a solo costume because they obviously worjed hard to get it! And fair play for them to do it so early!! I don't think you should have to compete at the worlds to get a solo costume. I go to a lot of regular feis's and I wear my solo costume but I've never danced solo's at the worlds. You have to build up to dancing at the worlds and that requires getting experience at other feis's which includes the whole solo costume experince !!! It's like anything the current trend is to have lots of sparkles and soft skirts etc. In a few years it could be completely different. It's up to the dancer to decide if they want to follow the trends or not ![]() |

oh and just because someone little has a solo dress, doesnt mean that they didnt work hard for it. a little girl i use to dance with was absolutely amazing and she moved through the ranks and was prizewinner after three feisanna. she worked so hard, and was six. she is an inspiration to me. and i understand with the make up! i do agree with way to much make up! unless it is a raised stage with tons of lights then you shouldnt be wearing so much make up. and the spray tans are pretty stupid too. but thats my opinion.

It took me two years before I could get a solo dress. Just ordered my first (used) one and waiting for it in the mail
I've been competing for almost a year, but I'm 19 and I worked really hard for it. I think some little kids with dresses deserve them because they do work hard and they're teacher obviously thinks they're ready for one. But I don't think they should get dresses custom-made, because they're going to grow out of it quickly, and their parents spent loads of money on it. If they decide to stick with it as they get older, they can do what they like. That is just my opinion, though, there are other ways to look at it. ![]() |
