This has been one of my busiest dance months. I have been dancing every day for the past two weeks and it's starting to take a toll. My legs are incredible sore, especially my shins. I can even squat down without them aching. Could I have shin splints?

Yes. Especially if it feels like the actual shin bones are hurting, and if you're dancing on a solid floor, rather than a sprung wooden floor. And as far as I know the only cure is rest! Good luck.

Thank you so much for the tips! That link really helped me. I iced my shins after dance last night and I am icing them now, while watching Say Yes to the Dress.
![]() After my shows this weekend, I will be on break for two weeks so I will be giving my legs some much needed rest! Thank you so much everybody! |

Shin splints are awful, I know exactly what you're going through! You just have to ice and rub them before and after class. Taping your arches can help amazingly well, just with some athletic tape. It also helps if you get a compression sleeve to wear while you dance, if they get really bad. A two week break should get rid of them completely though!
good luck! |

I've had shin splints as well. What I did is ice my legs 2 times a day for around 10 minutes, and I also got some stretching excersises. Rest also helps a lot. I didn't took a complete rest, so it took longer to heal, but when I rested it was already better, so rest does help.

I've heard that what causes shin splits is when your calf muscles are way stronger than the muscles on the front of your leg, (which is why Irish dancers get them more often than other kinds of dancers) so to keep that from happening again, you need to stretch those muscles.
