Good luck! In my reel, I hadn't placed in my reel twice in a row, but then I won first even though it didn't seem to me I'd improoved. I'm hoping that that will happen with my other dances that are stuck in novice. So maybe it will happen for you, too.

Practise practise practise! Ask your teacher for advice, advanced students, anyone you think can help! Remember that there's always going to be another feis; there's no age limit!
Try to focus on YOU improving and perfecting your steps rather than winning. As they say, winning isn't everything!

I totally Agree with you Laura! That's what I love about Irish Dancing.. You can dance until you're 100 yrs old if you want to!

i'm guessing your freeze leap is what our school calls a fly. u just have to foucus on getting your back leg up as fast as possible.

Smile

Do not forget how you come on stage. You are marked for this as well.

Always smile at the adjudicator before you start to dance - if you can smile through the whole dance.
Make sure you get to the front of the stage so that the adjudicator can see you.
Things that I keep reminding my little girl - make sure you always cross you feet and point you toes (fully) as soon as you feet leave the floor.

Good luck – Alanna is at a Feis at Wembley on Sunday

i said id try to come up with a better expanation and this is the best i can do.

think of a normal hop 2 3 (the basic leap you learn when youre a beginner). when you dont freeze a leap, you jus slowly bring your foot through. you kinda jump in an airy kind of way if that makes sense.
to freeze a leap, you need to kick really fast, and shoot your leg out after you kick. YOU MUST SHOOT YOUR LEG OUT even if cant kick all the way up yet. eventually if you practice tons, it will begin to become frozen.

you dont need to be able to freeze your leaps to get in or out of prizewinner. most girls in prizewinner dont freeze them.

You should also take a look at some other things on dance.net, they have quite a lot of helpful things on there.
