The Program: Since 1996, Blas has been led by an “A” list of instructors and many Blas students have gone onto see major success in the Irish Dancing world both competitively and professionally. Blas gives access to some of the most prominent names within the Irish Dance world and features classes with some of the most renowned dance teachers who have successful track records training pupils to the highest dance titles and for entry in dance show troupes. The dance programme class sizes are deliberately small to facilitate the greatest access to these tutors and teachers. Blas provides students a taste of different styles with most students having more than two different master class tutors per week. This means Blas teachers rotate every day or two days, giving students the chance to work with different masters of the tradition.

The Program: Camp Rince Ceol (CRC) has been in existence for more than 20 years and campers love this program. While starting out as a program for youths ages 7-18, it has grown over the years to offer a separate program for adults in New York. Be sure to check CRC’s website for the program information for adults which provides a unique experience for those interested in Irish Dance!

The CRC Youth Camp is so popular it has a large following on Facebook @Camp Rince Ceol Irish Dance Summer Camp, and on Instagram & Twitter @camprinceceol. You can even find them on YouTube by searching “Irish Dance Camp.” The camp is an overnight, traditional summer camp, providing the perfect blend of dance and fun in a safe environment.

Every day consists of regular dance classes where campers work on both hard shoe and soft shoe. The camp offers daily bonus classes which dancers choose when enrolling such as trouble with trebles, strictly stamina, and fix those clicks, among many other options. Campers also have a drills class, fitness/Pilates classes, modern Irish Dance, pool time, and showcase practice daily.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are full dance class days. After breakfast the campers attend a group warm-up and then continue onto their first class which is ‘Drills” a 20-minute class of continuous dancing designed to get the body warm and to ‘wake up’ the feet. The morning is then made up of dance class, Pilates, yoga and more dance classes. After lunch, dancers go back to dance class and then onto their chosen bonus workshop. There is also pool time, a daily cooldown, and free time before dinner!

Each night commences with a planned camp activity composed of soccer, step abouts, camp trivia and ceili nights. Thursday provides a half-day of dancing along and with preparing for the popular ‘Showcase Night’ where the campers display a routine that they have choreographed themselves for the Instructors.

Safety: Parents appreciate the camp’s attention to safety including accommodating dietary issues such as lactose intolerance, gluten-free, vegetarian diets and many others. Each mealtime the camp provides a variety of healthy options. There are also sweet treat options for dessert too for those who wish to partake. The camp also has a dancer to camp counselor ratio of 8-10 campers per counselor. There is 2+ registered nurses on staff each week! The camp is certified and permitted to operate a dance camp by State Health Departments. They are also certified with The American Camp Nurse Association and are members of The American Camp Association. Each camp nurse is certified with Red Cross and/or American Heart Association.

The Program: The owners of Camp Rince Ceol have launched “Next Step” for those interested in the professional stage. Next Step is eight-day Irish Dance production immersing dancers in the professional stage world. The program will prepare every cast member who has ever dreamed of performing one day in a professional dance company. In addition to real stage experience, cast members will receive a headshot, production shot and a 60 sec audition tape that they can use and submit for future auditions.

Cast Members will perform original choreography and work with big name stars such as Ciara Sexton, Ciaran Plummer, and Ashley Smith Wallace. During the week they will prepare for a LIVE, full production show which they will perform on the final day of the program. Next Step will prepare cast members for the professional dance world by not only performing on stage but also with vital lessons on creating a Media Kit, how to write a dance resume, stage hair and make-up, injury prevention and how to train in the off season.

The Program: It’s most dancer’s dream to someday dance with Riverdance. Over the course of first five years running this program in Dublin, and the past three years in Boston, there have been over 44 dancers that have come to the summer school and went on to either tour with the show, perform in flying squad events or dance in the show on the Gaiety stage. With the addition of Columbus, Ohio, more dancers than ever before will have the chance to learn Riverdance’s iconic choreography and be mentored by some of the world’s biggest dance stars!

It is important to note that not everyone who applies is accepted. Riverdance sees this as a great platform for talented dancers and dancers who are determined to reach their potential. They want to help dancers progress and that’s why they will consider dancers at either the Prelim or Open Champ level.

Taught by the Riverdance professional dancers, the participants of the six-day summer school will learn the iconic choreography from the show. They train in all aspects of being a professional dancer. Students aged 18 and older can use this week as an audition for the show. As well as all the dancing and performance, the program has a strong emphasis on nutrition, mind-set, strength and conditioning, leadership, teamwork, rest and recovery and general personal management. This training is sure to make a difference in every dancer’s life.

The finale of each school week is a fully staged rehearsed performance of Riverdance featuring all the students in front of an audience. While most of each day will be spent dancing, there will also be talks given by special guest speakers that will provide students insight into the creative and business side of the industry. Riverdance also partners with world class educational institutions including Dublin City University, Boston University, and Otterbien University in Westerville, Ohio to provide a safe and secure location for dancers.

The cast of studio2stage are chosen from an audition process and the panel is made up of the choreographers and the musical directors. Space is limited, so audition as soon as possible to secure a spot on the cast.

The Cast Member Program: Now eight years strong, Studio2stage has launched many dancers’ professional careers. The cast member program offers a complete performance and production experience for Irish Dancers and musicians over the course of nine amazing days. Dancers and musicians learn about show performance and are cast of a full-scale Irish Music & Dance Show performance for two performances at the spectacular Wilkins Theatre. Every participant will be on stage performing to a full house refining their stage presence and performing with confidence. Studio2stage is an incredible experience for any dancer making the transition or thinking about becoming a professional performer. The cast will also perform on Times Square in New York City! With Studio2Stage dancers acquire the single most important thing show producers are looking for which is experience performing in a fully live production to a full theatre audience! Another cool aspect of this program is that all performers receive a per diem payment for their show performances in line with the current rate for touring shows.

The Junior Day Workshop Program is for younger musicians (aged 10-14) and dancers (aged 10 to 21). The workshop students will also perform in the shows. The popular Target Training program is taking the show on the road this summer to 10 locations. Don’t miss the opportunity to train with one of the best in the business! The two-day program is dedicated to optimizing performance and improving technique of Irish Dancers. 

Led by Target Training’s Founder and Coach, Ellen G. Waller, dancers will benefit from her tremendous educational and practical dance background. Ellen was a world-class Irish Dancer and later became a certified instructor. She found herself driven to help young dancers “train smarter.” Utilizing her undergraduate degree in Dance Education along with a Masters of Science in Exercise Science, Ellen developed the Target Training Method, specific to Irish Dance.

The two-day program is dedicated to optimizing performance and improving technique of Irish Dancers through physical and cognitive training specific to their art. During the day camp, dancers are instructed through a series of Irish Dance-specific exercises broken down by Irish Dance technique such as turnout, crossover, posture and pointing. The training plan is designed to optimize performance, reduce the risk of injury, and educate dancers on how to correct technique through strength and mobility training. Each dancer will be given a training handbook outlining all exercises to continue their training at home.
